Toulon is a naval port. French fleet scuttled here during WWII
The French fleet in Toulon was scuttled on 27 November 1942 to avoid capture by Nazi German forces. The Allied invasion of North Africa had provoked the Germans into invading the ‘Free Zone’ (Vichy France), officially neutral according to the 1940 Armistice. Vichy Secretary of the Navy, Admiral Darlan, defected to join De Gaulle and the Free French, who were gaining increasing support from both servicemen and civilians. His replacement, Admiral Auphan, guessed correctly that the Germans were aiming to seize the large fleet at Toulon (Operation Lila), and issued orders for scuttling these vessels. The Germans launched a heavy assault, but the naval crews used deception tactics to delay the enemy until scuttling could be carried out. Operation Lila was judged a failure, with the French destroying 77 vessels, with the capture of 39 small ships, while several submarines escaped to French North Africa. It marked the end of Vichy France as a credible power.
Harbour fortifications are located high on the mountain tops
It seems to me that this is where Admiral Hornblower was imprisoned after his ship was sunk by cannon fire from these fortifications in a book by CS Forester.
4 Barcelona 8:30 AM 8:00 PM
Barcelona Marina
Hop-on Hop-off tour started by climbing to the top of mountain park overlooking the harbour and city below.
Gaudi's Casa Mila
Bike sharing locations where located all over the city.
Expensive apartment housing district where prices where well into the hundreds of millions of Euros.
Casa Mila meant to look like waves 1910
Gaudi's Casa Battlo
Square with Barcelona's main train station
We never before saw so many yachts in one place.
The beaches which line the enterence to the inner harbour were used by throngs of walkers and joggers and in the water many surfboarder's rode the waves.

The great unfinished work of Gaudi....La Sagrada Familia now under construction for many years....and from the look of it, it will be under construction for many years to come before it is finaly finished. It will eventually be the tallest building in Barcelona when it is finished. I am thinking that the engineers can hardly imagine what keeps it from falling over.
Gaudi's cathedral Sagrada Familia still under construction years after the architects death.
5 Palma de Mallorca 10:00 AM 8:00 PM
6 At Sea
Gibralter
The highlight of the voyage was our passage through the Straits of Gibralter which we entered about 17:00 hours. Everyone seemed to be in party mode and climbed to the upper decks to take in the sights with a drink in their hand.
Yes, it was chilly!
Even windmills on Gibralter! Why not! Seems the wind always blows there. We had to use a high zoom rate to be able to make them out in the distance.
Shipping in Strait of Gibralter with several Naval destroyers showing up when we zoomed in. Someone is always watching.
Many porpoises breached in the ships wake, though they were hard to catch with the camers.
One last view of the famous Rock as we sailed out into the Atlantic.
