Lady Slipper - Canada's Northern Orchid at Purdon Conservation Area

June 21, 2016. Today we visited the Purdon Conservation Area to see the Lady Slipper Orchids.  Mr. Purdon found a clump of orchids in the 30's and spent 50 years managing the fen.  These orchids cannot self pollinate and have no nectar so don't attract insects.  Most of the pollination is done by accidental visits of insects or by human intervention.
